Michelin Presentation

Click for Larger ViewFriday Afternoon: A representative from Michelin came and told us all about the new Michelin Pilot Sport tires. Afterwards he had a question and answer period that turned out to be very informative. I'm not going to try and remember everything he said, but here are some of the highlights that seem very interesting to me.

  • When asked about the apparently undersized 245 tire on the 9 inch M roadster rim, he showed us how the angle of a smaller tire on a wider wheel was affected in a hard turn. I was understanding his explanation but I don't think I understood it enough to repeat it. I came away from the discussion with the decision that for my next set of tires I will be going back to the stock size at least on the front wheels.
  • When we asked him about run flat (or zero pressure) tires, he said that Michelin presently didn't have any in the pilot line but they were working on them. He explained how zero pressure tires worked and then there were lots of question and answers about flat tires, the mobility kit and pressure monitoring systems. By the end of the discussion I made the decision that I'm going to get a pressure monitoring system. The Michelin representative had some experience with a few of the pressure monitoring systems available and took our names to send us additional information.
  • I was also impressed with the new pilot sport tire. Hopefully it will be awhile longer before I have to buy tires again but the pilot sports will be one of the tires considered. It was very impressive to hear about how the tire was created, what changed and why they changed it. I'm really glad I attended the presentation.
